Reflections of Dubai

5:00 AM, stepped out of my hotel room to a small courtyard area and the cool morning air was gently rock’n the fronds on the trees. A distant soft melodic sound swept in on the breeze. It was at once both haunting, calming and oddly reassuring, as I listened I realized it was the Muslim call to Prayer. I thought to myself how wonderful it was that this culture took time throughout the day to express itself and pay homage to their belief. Not what I expected to feel at all.

I was struck at every turn by the thoughtfulness to the design of so much of what had been created. Details were not overlooked, rather acknowledged, meticulously examined and carefully considered. There was a premeditated quality to both function and aesthetic that is rarely captured on the scale that it was in Dubai. There is a diversity to the cultural makeup of Dubai that reflects a new cosmopolitan gestalt that I’d never experienced. I was as comfortable as I’ve ever been in a new city.
